Signs of a Leaking Water Pipe
A damaged water supply system can cause significant damage to your property. If water leak is not detected and repaired in a timely manner, there is even a risk of damage to a property.
Although modern polyethylene pipes have a large margin of safety, in some cases they can be damaged. It is important for homeowners to quickly identify water leaks in order to minimize damage.
Signs of damaged pipes
Here is a list of the most common signs to look out for:
Water outside
This is perhaps one of the most common signs of damage to the main line. When you notice that water has appeared on the ground near the house, it’s time to turn off the main valve and immediately contact water leak detector. Potential hazards can be indicated by areas of damp ground.
Puddles in the house
Are the walls or ceiling covered with wet spots? Has water accumulated on the floor? Look for a water leak. You should especially carefully inspect the places near sinks, toilets and bathtubs. It is advisable to carry out such an inspection throughout the house on a regular basis. Highlight hard-to-reach places with a flashlight.
Inexplicably high water bills
Are you sure you are using less water than indicated on your receipts? It is possible that a hole has appeared somewhere in the pipe, and water is constantly flowing out through it. After receiving such a suspicious receipt, inspect the house and communications for other signs of a leak.
Low water pressure
Is the pressure from the tap suddenly not as strong as it used to be? It is quite possible that this is also caused by problems on the main line. But the likelihood of a pipe rupture in the house is still present. In this case, the pressure will be insufficient even if you open the valve completely. The water just comes out of the pipe somewhere else.
Cracks in the foundation of your home
Water from broken pipes can seep under the foundation, gradually eroding it. If you do not stop this in time, cracks can appear on the walls as well.
Sounds of water
Sounds of falling drops, whistling, knocking, clanking, rattling sounds may indicate that something is wrong with the pipes.
Bad smell
When dirty water gets out of the pipes, sooner or later, odors will appear in the house. This may mean that the communications are clogged or damaged.
